Son of a military physician and an elementary school teacher, Bryan grew up all over the United States. His favorite spot: the Presidio, a military base in San Francisco, where he could see the infamous Alcatraz Island prison from his bedroom window. His parents used this sight to great effect in keeping Bryan and his siblings in line!
Bryan’s tour of the country continued thanks to post-secondary educational opportunities. His first stop was Princeton, NJ, for an undergraduate degree in psychology; then Albuquerque, NM, for a summer program for lovers of linguistics; then Durham, NH, for a masters in education; and finally Gainesville, FL, for a Ph.D. in education.
Back in the northeastern U.S., Bryan spent nine years at Cornell University in upstate New York, teaching college students how to work effectively with kids and teens. During the pandemic, he and his family moved to Vermont, where he directed afterschool and summer enrichment programs for the St. Johnsbury School District. When Bryan wasn’t writing grants, hiring and orienting staff, and evaluating programs, he did his favorite things: working directly with students to write, film, play music, and prep for MathCounts.
Bryan appreciates all the adventures and diversity he experienced in his moves, but he’s ready to settle in. He can’t wait to partner with teachers, families, students themselves, and surrounding communities to make Crossroads a nexus of intellectual and ethical flourishing.
