Performing Arts Director
Julia Anne Cohen is an Equity actor and educator originally from the beautiful Hudson Valley. Julia maintains a private voice studio both in-person and online with over 30 students, ranging from Broadway professionals and emerging artists to individuals working on karaoke songs, prepping school auditions, or public speaking skills. Julia’s number one goal as a teacher is to help students share stories through singing and acting and build lifelong vocal health. She values joy and playfulness.
She has held collegiate positions as a Voice Professor at NYU Steinhardt and American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Past positions include the Music Specialist at Bank Street Family Center, The William Woodward Jr. School, and Kaplan School in NYC. Training includes Lincoln Center Education’s Teaching Artistry Fundamentals Lab, Music Together™, and The Vielka Method™, a step-by-step singing approach designed for kids and teens.
Recent performance credits include Broadway Asia’s international tour of The Sound of Music, the regional premiere of SpongeBob SquarePants:The Musical at The Barn Theatre, and the Off-Broadway production of Dracula: Finding of a Shadow at the Gene Frankel Theatre (recipient of Broadway World’s Best New Play Award).
Julia earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance Opera with a minor in Acting and a concentration in Music in Education as a Presidential Scholar and Chadwick Medalist at the New England Conservatory in Boston. She pursued a Master of Music in Musical Theatre with a Vocal Pedagogy Certificate at New York University as a Musical Theatre Excellence Award winner.
When she’s not performing or teaching, you can likely find Julia on a hiking trail. She’s more than halfway through hiking the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, one-third through the Catskill peaks, and has completed a 12-day trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
