Weekly Newsletter

For much of the fall and into the winter, Marilyn Wanner coordinated an impressive effort to produce a new admissions viewbook that not only reflects our school’s diversity of strengths but also authentically speaks to Crossroads essential qualities of academic strength and the development of moral integrity. Many current parents, past parents, faculty and staff helped with this process, and we greatly appreciate all their creative energy and hard work to generate such a strong publication. The fact the project remained on schedule while integrating so many important perspectives speaks volumes about the collaborative nature of our school culture.
And the good news: our viewbook is now available on our webpage and the printed copy will be out soon!
—Yours truly, Brad

* ADMISSIONS OFFICE NEWS
Greetings from the Admissions Office! I hope you all have a lovely winter break next week, but before you go, I invite you to stop by our Crossroads Brown Bag Café tomorrow, February 9, to have coffee and conversation with old and new friends alike. We will meet in the multi-purpose room in the Klee Building from 8:00-9:00 am. We plan on discussing ideas for after-school activities that would encourage more physical movement for our students. I hope you can come and join in this important conversation. Please consider bringing along a friend who hasn’t had the chance to join us yet at the Café…the more the merrier!
Have a wonderful week! —Warmly, Marilyn

* CENTER FOR TALENTED YOUTH RESULTS
Congratulations to Katherine Duan and Alexander Kish!
Eighth graders Katherine Duan and Alexander Kish were awarded a national research grant from Center for Talented Youth (CTY) to devise a way to micropropagate or clone the Showy Lady’s Slipper, an endangered variety of orchid native to New England. Katherine and Alexander are one of ten teams from across the United States who won this year’s CTY Cogito Research Awards for aspiring middle school and high school STEM researchers.
A judging panel composed of faculty from The Center for Talented Youth selected the proposals from 254 student applications based on their overall quality and their promise to achieve compelling research results. Ten grants were awarded to students who submitted outstanding proposals for research in science, technology, engineering, or math fields.
Student researchers will use the funds to purchase equipment, rent lab space, or pay for other project-related needs. Katherine and Alexander and their fellow award winners will work with supervising mentors as they see their projects through to the end and write final reports on the results.

If the Pond is open for skating on Friday, February 12, after school, he welcomes any kids interested in helping him complete his projects to join him. For more information, contact Christine_Foley@yahoo.com.
