As we prepare for our Veterans Day assembly, I want to share why this annual gathering is such an important part of Crossroads and aligns with our mission.

Crossroads Academy is committed to the Core Virtues curriculum, and, combined with the strong, content-rich Core Knowledge history curriculum, it guides not only what we teach but also how we come together as a community. Veterans Day provides a meaningful opportunity to bring these two pillars to life.

Through Core Knowledge, students build a deep understanding of the events, ideas, and sacrifices that have shaped our nation. They learn about the founding principles of liberty, citizenship, and service, and they meet the individuals—famous and unsung—whose courage has protected those ideals. Our Veterans Day assembly allows students to connect those lessons to the real people in their midst: family members, neighbors, and community members who have served.

At the same time, the virtues at the heart of our Core Virtues program—courage, gratitude, responsibility, respect—are vividly embodied in the lives of veterans. Taking time to gather as a school community offers students the opportunity to practice the virtues of expressing gratitude, showing respect, and reflecting on how service for the common good strengthens a community.

Our assembly is not about glorifying war; it is about honoring service, acknowledging sacrifice, and helping students understand the responsibilities of citizenship. It is a quiet, thoughtful, age-appropriate moment in which we invite students to appreciate those who have given of themselves so that others may live with freedom and opportunity.

Thank you for supporting this meaningful tradition. We are grateful to all members of our community who have served, and we look forward to an assembly that uplifts, educates, and inspires. We invite you all to ask your child(ren) about the Assembly to hear their experiences and thoughts.
