What year did you graduate from Crossroads Academy?

2013

Where did you attend high school? College? If applicable, graduate or professional school?

I attended Kimball Union Academy and Emma Willard School for high school and Carleton College!

What are doing now?

I have been living in Bethlehem, New Hampshire since graduating college in June, working on my uncle’s farm and also for the Upstage Players, a small community theater company in Littleton! I am in the process of applying to graduate school for journalism this fall.

How did your Crossroads education in the Core Knowledge/Core Virtues curricula prepare you for where you are today?

My Crossroads education provided me with a deep curiosity for the world, and inspired me to love research and writing. In addition, I think the Core Virtues curriculum and the thoughtful, respectful, and kind community at Crossroads gave me invaluable interpersonal skills and a strong moral compass which have continued to stay with me.

What was your favorite class at Crossroads? Why?

I am going to have to say English here. It was so special that even from a young age, in English class, discussion was the primary focus. Being able to articulate our feelings about books and characters was so powerful. I am indebted to my teachers for inspiring me to continue loving literature, so much so that I majored in English and even wrote my own novella for my senior thesis!

What advice would you give a current Crossroads student?

I would say, just do you! Often the things we are most shy about are the things we care most about, and whatever those things are, they are your superpower! Be brave and be you!

With which historical figure/celebrity would you most enjoy being stuck in a ski lift?

I would love to be stuck on a ski lift with Patti Smith. She just seems like such a thoughtful, wise, and well-read person. I think we would have a great time.

Is there a Crossroads moment, event or mentor you feel made a foundational impact in your life? Please elaborate.

Christiana Whittington was a huge influence and mentor for me. She not only inspired my love for musical theater and singing, but also our music classes were so rich and history lessons in and of themselves. I learned how to actively listen to music through an analytical lens from her, and this sparked a deep interest which has continued through my life, as I now am interested in pursuing music journalism as a career path! I appreciate her teaching and passion for music so much.
