Middle School students have been organizing a basket sale to benefit the Zienzele Foundation. While our community focuses on the Core Virtues of generosity and service during the month of December, we encourage one another to lend a helping hand. As we continue to grow our relationship with this great cause, we encourage our family and friends to do the same. The Zienzele Foundation works in some of the poorest villages in Zimbabwe to help support women and care for over 1,000 orphans through basket weaving and other projects.
Students chose this organization after Zienzele visited the sixth grade class in November to provide some history and details about their organization. During the visit, each sixth grader was paired with a pen pal in Zimbabwe and have been writing back and forth ever since. After receiving handmade basket-woven coasters as a gift from their pen pals, the sixth grade class offered to bring some of their baskets to Crossroads to sell.
This month, you can find the beautiful baskets in the Crossroads Academy Faculty Lounge. All proceeds of the basket sales will directly benefit the Zienzele Foundation. Sales will continue until December 19. Please contact Holly Gardner for more information.
