This month's virtues are Compassion and Forgiveness. Compassion is caring about others, treating them with kindness, and feeling a strong desire to help people in need. Forgiveness is having enough heart to let go of hurt.

We would like to wish a heartfelt thank you to the Board of Trustees for their thoughtful lunch delivery for faculty and staff last week. We appreciate you!

Soccer Jamboree at Crossroads

Fifth grader, Julia W. was this year's Persuasive Speech Contest winner. Her speech promoted Grassroot Soccer, a non-profit organization based in Lyme, NH that focuses on adolescent health. The organization uses the power of soccer to equip young people with the life-saving information, services, and mentorship to live healthier lives. In celebration of Julia's accomplishment, Crossroads and her family will be hosting a FUNdraising fifth through eighth grade 5v5 soccer jamboree. All profits will be donated to Lyme’s own Grassroot Soccer to help them support their life-saving efforts in rural countries all over the world.

Second Grade State Fair

Mrs. Martin's second graders filled the Commons with their displays last Friday, showcasing the American state that each of them have been studying. Each display included a descriptive poster and food from their state! Second graders were dressed in their state's attire, and prepared speeches for visitors from each class. This tradition is a favorite in second grade, and we are so happy to have it back after a number of years.

Fourth Grade Scientists

Earlier this month, our fourth graders learned about the inner workings of the heart by dissecting that of a sheep. As they concluded their unit on body systems, in particular, the cardiovascular system, students were fortunate to see first-hand how the parts of a heart interact and can differ from heart to heart. Thank you to all parent and staff volunteers who helped make this dissection a success!

Introducing the Crossroads Academy Coloring Book!

The Crossroads coloring book was created during middle school clubs this spring. Each week students gathered and collaborated in the art room and discussed Crossroads Academy highlights and traditions. The coloring book is a culmination of all their creative efforts resulting in clever artistic visual representations for both the Lower and Middle school. The students’ goals were to create a book that all would enjoy, while revisiting (and highlighting) past memories and traditions and to have rising students anticipate creating them in the future!

Crossroads-Inspired Zen Garden (at home!)

After learning about Zen Gardens in a recent Lower School Assembly, fourth grader Max Fabrizio was so inspired that he went home and created one himself! He designed and built a prototype on his own, and then he and his mother constructed the garden from scratch. He even wrote a haiku for the garden, and is thankful to have a space to rake, unwind, and clear his mind. Great job, Max!

Overdue Library Books

If your child is still in posession of a library book, Ms. Manory has been in touch with you about it's late status. All books were due back to the library by last Friday. Please remember that any student with an outstanding book will not receive their grade report until the book has been returned.

Please email our librarian assistants with questions.
