This month's virtues are Self Control and Self Discipline. Self Control is stopping to think about my actions before I enact them. Self Discipline is giving the best of ourselves and saying, "no" to our weaknesses.

Kindergartners Learn to Play African Instruments

Last week, our kindergartners got to try out different African instruments in music class, which directly relates to their classroom studies on the continent of Africa. They were so excited to experience the pieces for themselves, and to practice keeping a steady beat.

After School Scientists!

On Friday, students and their families experimented with science and other activities during STEM Night in Bancroft. Students built bridges and tested how much weight it could hold in books, built penguin rafts, experimented with marshmallows, and so much more! We look forward to hosting again next year, and hope you and your students learned something new!

Shakespeare Day: Friday, May 12

Next month, Crossroads students will participate in Elizabethan and acting games, watch Shakespearean performances, and participate in a sonnet workshop during Shakespeare Day. Fifth graders will perform Midsummer Night's Dream from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Bancroft Gymnasium to kick off the day of activities. Then, beginning at 2:00 p.m., we will gather back in the gym to watch the following performances:

  • First Grade: Shakespearean Sonnets
  • Second Grade: Romeo and Juliet
  • Third Grade: Macbeth
  • Fourth Grade: Shakespearean Quotes
  • Sixth Grade: Julius Caesar
  • Seventh Grade: The Tempest

We invite you to come and watch any and all of these impressive performances!

Overdue Library Books

In an effort to organize the library for the end of the school year, all books must be returned by Friday, May 19. After this date, students will have the opportunity to read during their library classes, but they will not check out any additional books. Please note that students who have outstanding books will not receive their grade reports until the books have been returned or replaced. Your child's homeroom teacher will be sending home a list of missing books within the next week. Please email our librarian assistants with questions.

Tick Reminder

Your children will be spending a lot of time outdoors in the coming months. Now is a good time to consider applying bug spray and sunscreen before school. At school, we work very hard to keep our grass cut short, clean up loose brush, and our playgrounds clear of debris. In addition, our teachers are vigilant about checking our students when necessary.
