Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2022

This month's virtues are Hope, Joy, and Wonder. Hope is finding the light in the darkness and trusting in right endings. Joy is the fullness of spirit that blooms from the loving heart. Wonder is to stop and say, "Wow!"

Fifth Graders Support Operation Gratitude

Real Math Applications Lecture Series in Middle School

Thank you, to all of our parents who reached out to offer their time and expertise for our upcoming Real Math Applications Lecture Series, which will run throughout this academic year. We tentatively plan to have different lectures during middle school math class throughout the school year. The first lecture will take place on Thursday, November 3 at 2:05 in the Commons. Kevin Knuuti P'28 will be presenting to students on climate change and rising sea levels. If you would like to offer your expertise in a real-world math presentation, please contact Maria Squire.

Core Knowledge Information Session

Bruce Freeberg has generously offered to host a second Core Knowledge Information Session on Thursday, November 3 at 6:30 p.m. for any family who was unable to make it last week. If you have never heard Bruce explain the importance, the process, and in-depth details of the Core Knowledge sequence, we highly encourage you to attend. Bruce is a very engaging speaker, and we promise you will leave the session feeling even more confident in our Core Knowledge curriculum at Crossroads Academy.

Kindergarten Pajama Drive

As we head into November and begin focusing on the virtues of gratitude and stewardship, many of our classes will begin a service project. Our youngest students are excited to invite you to contribute to their "Great Bedtime Pajama Drive!" Kindergartners are looking for brand-new pajamas in all sizes for any season. The drive is sponsored by Scholastic Book Clubs, and for every pair of pajamas donated, SBC will donate a brand-new book to the Pajama Program to give to a child facing adversity. Our kindergartners are so excited to make a difference in another child's life. Please send all donations to the school by November 30.

Crossroads Welcomes Visitors from WISE

At Crossroads, health education is a vital aspect of your child’s learning, as it is important that our students are prepared to make healthy and happy decisions throughout their lives. From identifying personal space in Kindergarten, to understanding friendship conflicts in fifth grade, to how to create a supportive environment for classmates in Middle School, health education can give students the knowledge and skills necessary to support them in making healthy life choices.

Next week, students in kindergarten through eighth grade will have two lessons led by WISE, a local organization that is driven to end gender-based violence through survivor-centered advocacy, prevention, education, and mobilization for social change.

Strings Students are Hard at Work

The Crossroads Strings Ensemble has been working hard during this first quarter, and we are excited that we will be performing, in person, for the holiday concert on December 9! This is our first holiday concert in three years, and we are looking forward to it. Director of our strings program, Anna Sikora, would like to recognize and thank Teresa Chia P'30,'28, for volunteering in the strings classroom this fall in order to help prepare the students for their masterful upcoming performance.

Student Portraits

In case you missed it last week, please check out your student's school portrait at the link below. Please let Erin Drury know as soon as possible should you desire a photo retake. As always, you may download photos at no cost or order prints directly from the Crossroads gallery. Proceeds directly benefit the Crossroads Fund.
