This month's virtues are Generosity and Service. Generosity is giving more of something than is necessary or expected. Service is helping or doing work for someone.

Seventh Grade Emily Dickinson Field Trip

Last week, seventh graders traveled with Mr. Glazer to Amherst, Massachusetts, to celebrate Emily Dickinson's birthday a few days early. The field trip included stops at the Homestead (Emily Dickinson's house), the Amherst College archive, and Amherst's West Cemetery (Emily's final resting place). We're so happy to continue this tradition of paying tribute to Dickinson as they continue to study her works in English class.

Fifth Grade French Responses

For a unit on subject pronouns, verb conjugation, and automne vocabulary, fifth grade students recently painted owls, then labeled their basic parts in French. Next, each student wrote a page for our book: Hibou, Hibou, qu’est-ce que tu vois? (Owl, owl, what do you see?). Originally, students were to use their fall vocabulary or cultural learning of Parisian monuments to have the owl see, however a few hoped to take the project to meet their personalities, and Madame Gonzalez was thrilled with the outcome!

Third Grade Roman Colosseum Wins First Place!

Last week, Ms. Marsha and Ms. Verheeck collaborated on the construction of a gingerbread Roman Colosseum for the third graders to decorate. This masterpiece was to be entered into the Gingerbread House Competition fundraiser for the Family Place. Students each decorated their own Roman gladiator to accompany the structure, and attended the festival to place bids and check out their competition. We are thrilled to announce that this year the third graders won first place in the youth division! Please join us in congratulating them on their hard work, and see the photos of their creation below.

A Wonderful Holiday Concert

Thank you Ms. Duvall, Ms. Sikora, and our whole community for putting on a fabulous winter concert last week! If you were not able to attend, please feel free to watch the recording at any time, or take a look at the photos below. We hope the concert put you in a festive mood for this wonderful season with family and friends.

Middle School Food Drive

Along with the Middle School penny drive, students are also participating in a food drive. A representative from the Hanover Food Shelf has indicated that need in the community is especially great this year, and that, along with cans and other packaged food, the need includes toiletries-- toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar and liquid soap, etc. Any contributions will be appreciated! Please bring in your items by Friday, December 16, and contact Bruce Freeberg if you have any questions.

Kangaroo Math: Registration Reminders

If you have not already signed your student up for Kangaroo Math, there is still time, however, registration is now open for other schools as well. This year, the Kangaroo Math competition will take place at Crossroads on March 16 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The registration fee is $21 per student before December 16, and $35 per student after December 15. Interest in the competition is high, and we are allowing approximately 24 students to participate, so please register as soon as you're able. In order to register as a Crossroads student, please email Kevin Knuuti P'28 to receive the Crossroads access code. Please write "Math Kangaroo" in the subject line, to ensure a speedy response.

Give the Gift of Crossroads Attire

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for your Crossroads family member during this season of generosity, consider a gift from our spirit gear store! A percentage of the proceeds go towards the crossroads fund, and your family members will love showing their Crossroads pride around town. In addition, we would love to offer you the chance to purchase one of the limited edition Crossroads beanies. Hats are $20, and can be purchased while supplies last! Please email Katie Wardrop if you would like to purchase one with cash or check. Happy shopping!
