Crossroads Academy, complete with its own pristine brook, is located on a beautifully forested 140-acre campus eight miles north of Dartmouth College in Lyme, New Hampshire. Our main building, the Klee, is constructed of warm brick and clapboard, and houses six large classrooms, a well-equipped science lab, and administrative offices. Each classroom is spacious, sunny, and quiet, and beginning in first grade, includes a desk for each child, large tables for group work, and a comfortable reading area to encourage our children to snuggle up with a good book.
Close to the Klee are our Middle School building and our Barn. The Middle School building contains a room dedicated solely to the study of history and two large, bright adjoining rooms where Middle School classes are held. The Barn houses our computer lab, French room, and Middle School lunchroom. A short walk brings our students to our Bancroft Campus Center. This beautiful new 16,000-square-foot building contains a gymnasium/auditorium, art and music rooms, a gallery, a kitchen, a conference room, and a spacious 7,000-volume library.
Cross age, outdoor activities take place during our two daily recesses. Our students create snow sculptures and sled in the winter. During the spring and fall they play basketball, soccer, foursquare, and jump rope on our large, open playing fields.
Covering several ecosystems, a series of nature trails augment our campus both for recreational and educational purposes. Winding along the Hewes Brook and into the surrounding woodlands, our trails allow for snowshoeing and hiking in physical education classes and environmental explorations and activities through science classes.
Presently Crossroads is engaged in a three-phase campus expansion. The first phase concluded with the purchase of 135 acres of land. Completed in the spring of 2006, the Bancroft Campus Center is the second phase. The School plans to add new Lower and Middle School buildings in the third phase.
